This study was conducted to clarify the taxonomic delimitaion of Dendropanax morbifera and D. trifidus based on qualitative and quantitative characters. Forty two individuals of D. morbifera were collected in four provinces of southern Korea and twenty individuals of D. trifidus were collected in three provinces of western Japan. At the same time, 17 qualitative and 37 quantitative characters were examined and the data matrix was subjected to discriminant analysis. The fruit shape showed elliptical to globular shape and the sap color changed milky white to brown. From this study, characters of fruit shape and sap color are not good diagnostic characters, also other qualitative external characters made no distinction between two taxa. It was concluded that there was no difference between D. morbifera Leveille and D. trifidus (Thunb. ex Murray) Makino. |
